Gathering of the Scots

Perth-Andover’s Gathering of the Scots Festival
June 1st – 5th, 2016
Celebrating 15 Glorious Years in 2016!!

There is an old Scottish toast . . . used to this day in the ancient hills of Kincardine and Kintore, NB near the Village of Perth-Andover. It not a complicated one, with line upon line of rousing verse, but rather only 6 simple words carefully composed and dutifully passed down through the ages – to pay tribute to those ancestors that left the Glens of Scotland so many years ago in search of better lives for themselves and family. With glasses raised, the message is simple but passionate: “To those that came before us”! This simple toast speaks volumes asking us to never forget the severe hardships and major accomplishments attained by this small group of Scottish settlers that immigrated to the wilderness of our Province so many years ago.

Eat it Up

Small scale art with large scale implications opening at McCain Gallery

EAT IT UP posterrThe Andrew & Laura McCain Art Gallery invites you to the reception for ‘Eat It Up,’ opening on Thursday, May 26th from 7-9PM at the gallery (downstairs at 8 McCain St, Florenceville-Bristol). This multi-media, group exhibition showcases a select group of miniature works, unlike any collection ever previously displayed by the gallery.

Curated by the gallery’s Director, Victoria Hutt, no piece will exceed a frame size of six by six inches. The resulting effect of experiencing artwork of such small scale will be much like the cake that Alice eats in Wonderland. Feeling enormous by comparison, the viewer will be forced to take time to get up close and personal with the work, to discover and appreciate all it has to offer. On the concept, Hutt explains, “The exhibition reinforces that small is powerful, presenting an allegory of our beloved New Brunswick. New Brunswick is a vibrant and worthy place, despite its small stature.”

“This unique exhibition is captivating in more ways than one,” exclaims Laurel Green. Recently having accepted a full time position at the Charlotte Street Arts Centre in Fredericton, Green still works on a casual basis supporting ALMAG and is an exhibiting artist in the upcoming show. “I am thrilled to participate in a show that is so conceptually dear to my heart. I recognize the strong and beautiful virtues of our little province and feel privileged to know the talent that it inspires and breeds.”

‘Eat It Up’ will be on display May 26 – July 2nd in a showcase of tiny treasure created by nearly two dozen local and regional artists affiliated with the gallery.
